AGREEM EUROPEAN AND MEDITERRANEAN STUDIES

The European and Mediterranean Studies Group AGREEM was created in 1998 with the aim of carrying out analysis and applied research on issues concerning, mainly, economic, political and social development on both sides of the Mediterranean: South and North. From the outset, AGREEM has been a member of the international research networks FEMISE and Euromesco, with which it has actively participated in research projects, conferences, monographs, etc. 

AGREEM is made up of a team of researchers from the UAM and occasionally collaborates in research consortiums with other universities. In the past, it has carried out joint projects with members of the University of Marrakesh (Morocco), Mohamed V of Rabat (Morocco), Sfax (Tunisia), Antalya (Turkey), UNED (Spain), Miguel Hernández (Spain), Autónoma de Barcelona (Spain)... During these more than 20 years, we have also actively collaborated with CIDOB and the Elcano Royal Institute in research areas related to the analysis of national and international migrations.

AGREEM's research and transfer activity has basically focused on issues related to migration and refugee processes (area directed by Professor Ramón Mahía) and on aspects related to the development of renewable energies and green transition in the Mediterranean area (area directed by Professor Rafael de Arce). Due to the origin of the researchers in this group, the analyses are based on quantitative analyses in the different works carried out.

 
AGREEM is also a recognised research group co-directed by professors Ramón Mahía Casado and Rafael de Arce Borda of the Autonomous University of Madrid and a public interest association registered with the Ministry of the Interior.
